Grief, bracing, & the exhale 🌬️

Breathe: Just You, the Breath, and the Breakthrough

June 15, 2026

Hello Friends,

There is a quiet, persistent ache that comes when we try to manage the unmanageable. We often pride ourselves on our capacity to be the steady anchor for others, but I’ve been sitting with a difficult question lately: how do we hold space for our own heartbreak?

When loss hits - whether it’s a major life transition or the weight of a missed expectation - our bodies respond with an ancient, protective reflex: we brace. We lock our jaws, tighten our shoulders, and cling to the inhale, terrified that if we let go, the weight of the grief will finally take us down. We are taught to prioritize the "inhale" - the drive, the constant intake, the push - but this Tuesday, we are going to explore why that bracing is actually what keeps the grief trapped inside us.

A Moment to Pause:

Before we get there, I want to offer you a way to meet your nervous system exactly where it is today. Find a quiet, safe space and let yourself settle.

Place your hands on your lower ribs and feel the architecture of your own body. Take an honest breath in through your nose. Notice the little "hiccup" at the top where you feel tempted to brace. Instead of rushing, linger. Then, like honey pouring from a jar, begin to let the exhale go. Make it twice as long as the inhale. Exhale until there is truly nothing left. Sink into that moment of emptiness - the pause, the "un-breath." This is the physical signal to your nervous system that you are safe to let go.

This Tuesday: The Unfinished Breath

That practice of lingering is the heart of what we’re exploring in Episode 14, "The Unfinished Breath." We are challenging the narrative that says we must close every loop to be "whole," and instead, looking at how to widen our container so that grief can move through us, rather than being stored in our ribs and jaw.

In this episode, we will cover:

  • The Anatomy of Bracing: Why our nervous system interprets heartache as a threat and how it locks that energy into our fascia.
  • Somatic Sustainability: Learning to exhale fully - even when the world feels like it might shatter.
  • Embracing the Pause: Reframing the "empty" space of the breath not as a void, but as the essential foundation for safety.

I’m Ferryn Wynter, a yoga and breathwork guide dedicated to helping you find your resonance in a world that never stops moving. I spent years thinking that "strength" meant being unshakable and building walls to stay safe. What I found instead was that true resilience doesn’t come from being rigid - it comes from being solid enough to finally stop holding your breath. Finding that calm within the chaos is exactly what I’m here to help you do. Whether we are meeting on the mat or through the deep conversations of my podcast, my goal is simple: to create a sanctuary where you can move with the storm, rather than against it. Let’s begin the breakthrough: Sign up for my email list below to stay connected. Check the Links tab to follow my journey, sign up for updates, and subscribe to the podcast. Until our next breath together, stay open. Just You, the Breath, and the Breakthrough. I’ll meet you in the stillness.

Breathe: Just You, the Breath, and the Breakthrough July 12, 2026 Hello Friends, We often think of our inner child as a distant memory—a scrapbook of moments tucked away in the past. But if we’re honest, we know that’s not quite true. Our inner child isn’t just a memory; it is an experience we carry in the present. It’s that subtle tightness in your chest when you feel misunderstood. It’s the instinct to apologize before you’ve even done anything wrong. It’s the exhaustion that comes from...

Breathe: Just You, the Breath, and the Breakthrough July 05, 2026 Hello Friends, We are often taught that to be kind, to be accessible, or to be "good" is to be completely open. We treat our energy like a public park - always available, always accessible, and rarely closed for maintenance. But have you noticed the cost of that constant openness? When we don't have a clear boundary, our nervous system never truly goes offline. We remain in a state of low-grade vigilance, absorbing the energy...

Breathe: Just You, the Breath, and the Breakthrough June 28, 2026 Hello Friends, Last week, we explored the rhythm of our own nervous system — the truth that we are not machines meant to produce at the same pace every day. We talked about honoring our own tides, listening for what our bodies are communicating, and releasing the belief that rest is something we have to earn. But there is another place where we often lose ourselves: The space between. The moment after one thing ends, but before...
